My Blog

C.i.s.c.o. spells Cisco!

Another update from my brain, which seems to have been eaten by Cisco. Or had that already happened and this is just it really starting to show? Either way, a bad thing? I'm not really sure...

Anyways, I'm still fighting with QoS and trying to fully learn what I need to for the certification exam, because its a guarantee that your going to see about 10 points of QoS on it. 10% on an exam where 80% is a pass? Kinda important to make sure you know it.
Here's an example of the what I'm working on right now.

-----------------
Traffic arriving from Switch1 to Switch3 must be classified according to VLAN.
Vlan 1 = DSCP value AF11
Vlan 2,3,4 = DSCP value AF12
Vlan 30,31,32 = AF13
For VLANs 2,3,4,30,31,32 mark Telnet and SSH packets with DSCP AF11.

Configure ingress queue 2 to be used for traffic with DSCP AF11, 12 and 13. Packets with AF12 must begin being dropped when the queue is 60% full and packets with AF13 when the queue is 40% full.

Minimize disruption of other default queuing methods. Do not reassign queues.
---------------

Thats just one part of QoS that I need to learn... Theres ALOT more, and not only do I have to learn how to do it all I need to learn how to know when to do it based on obscure requirements and phrasing. Yikes.

Note: If anybody knows of something they can recommend to read to learn about this stuff it would be greatly appreciated as I'm having just a bit of trouble wrapping my mind around this stuff.

Routing ftw?

So, what you see below is the process of what I did this morning on a router. Any questions about any specific part? Well, I might have had a reason for doing it and I might not. Feel free to ask though and I'll see what I can tell you about it.

Electrical Fail

High Heat, plus blackout due to overloaded grid thanks to lightning storm frying something and then dealing with a lack of AC = ruthless.  Losing configs on my devices twice? Even more annoying.  Silly lightning! Jeez!

Some Essentials

Below would be the super base essentials you need before you even begin to use a Router or Switch. No.. I'm not a geek. Nope not at all. Don't forget to fix the exec timeout once your done.

en (enable)
conf t (configure terminal)
lin c 0 (line console 0)
exec-t 0 (exec-timeout 0)
logg s (logging synchronous)
exi (exit)
no ip domain-lo (no ip domain-lookup)
