Univercd. Having to use it without search capacity just plain sucks, as it's horrible to navigate sometimes. Anybody else find this? Anybody have any tips on navigating it better?

Buzzwords much?

So, I was on a server spectating for a bit and had a player try and use the console awp buying exploit where you bypass weapon restrictions in mani.. Needless to say I fired up the admin and told him to knock it off. Of course, like most exploiters he didn't so I was forced to temp ban him for a few hours so that he could see his behavior wasn't tolerated on SpawnPoint servers.

Another issue I've been dealing with is bandwidth on some of the SpawnPoint servers due to the downloadable pc games including the last chaos download and wow client that SpawnPoint has been hosting. For those interested the Last Chaos client, which Spawnpoint had an exclusive on for the weekend is found here, Last Chaos Client Download and the wow full client (world of warcraft client) is found here, Wow Client Download

Also, an interesting note, SpawnPoint served up alot of bandwidth over the weekend with hosting the Last Chaos download. Below is the complete amount
Downloads Distributed: 16,027
Bandwidth Served: 6,698 gigabytes, or 6.5 terabytes
Average Download Speed: 781 KB/sec

So with all this extra traffic being sent out it really put a strain on the network and caused a few glitches. Fortunately though downloads of other free pc games did not seem to be affected and therefore people still got their content in a reasonable fashion. I suppose through this a single question remains. Will SpawnPoint continue to offer users the ability to download pc games, or just to download games in general? The answer, Of course.

BGP and Macs

BGP and Macs (Apple Computers.. aka Macintoshs) are really similar i've found. You have to trick both of them into doing what you want them to. With BGP if you arn't using interfaces further away from the source.. they sometimes don't send the right next_hop attribute to their eBPG neighbor. Which is just plain weird. Then not to mention when something suggests you use the next-hop-self command on that neighbor despite it being an eBGP relationship and therefore impossible to do that.. Yeah. Suffice to say, BGP while powerful, is very very fussy about what it will do.

Telnet Client

I've been using a telnet client called Poderosa to work with my Cisco devices for a couple weeks now and I must say I am quite impressed with it's features. It supports macros, and multiple panes so that you can view a couple devices at the same time side by side. All and all, a very powerful program. Now they just need to make it support RS-232 so one can do away with HyperTerminal...

Blogging for no Reason

So.. a blog entry without a cause huh?  Almost sounds like a cause for alarm.  Hmm.. What to blog about...  *looks around*  Ooh Networking!  Yeah.  I mean networking is pretty cool, and while I did talk about it a bit in my last post, it's just that I have a network diagram posted above my laptop here on the wall with black electricians tape.  Heh.  My current arch enemy?  QOS.  I don't really understand it very well, and it's causing me a bunch of problems.  Stupid quality of service.  Yup.  Mini Rant on QOS.  Hmm.. Wonder if I should change the blog title then... eh, na.

Networking!

Networking is fun! Seriously. Nothing like creating complex networks that are just plain epic. It's probably an.. acquired experience though, as I find it unlikely that many people will enjoy it as much.

Late Night Diablo 2

So, last night a friend and I beat Diablo 2 in a single run with brand new characters.  (Not LOD, we're saving that for today.)  I must say, an Assassin with Martial/Shadow build and a Sorceress with Ice build is quite an effective team.  One to blast stuff from behind and one to run in and just unleash the storm.  We hit level 26ish after defeating Diablo, so we clearly didn't rush it before we were ready.  Surprisingly Diablo 2 is still a very fun game, although I miss the new graphics and simple improvements offered by a very similar game called Titan Quest.  It's basically Diablo but newer with more features.  It still however captures the core spark of what made Diablo and all hack'n'slash rpgs fun though so it's overall a great game and I would highly recommend it.  However, I seem to be getting off from the main point at hand, which is... Diablo 2 rocks.  Yup.  End of Story.

SpawnPoint LAN

Tony, Christoph and I are over at Tony's LANing it up doing some games and code for SpawnPoint.  We've made a supplies run, grabbed 4 2Ls and some Popcorn Chicken, with some Cinnamon buns.  For the record? Those were great cinnamon buns.  Toph's getting drunk already pouring Dr. Pepper into the Rum bottle with a paper funnel.  We've cracked open The Lion King soundtrack and listened to that for awhile.  Now we're watching episodes of the Office  Oh Yeah.  LAN goodness.

Server Support

Currently working on a frustrating problem. To be honest? I hate Mani. With a passion. The software is horribly buggy and sometimes just doesn't do what it is supposed to despite all configuration attempts. I understand that it's in beta, but I also think the project has been abandoned by the developer and therefore Spawnpoint needs to start investigating a new and more stable method of managing the servers. A quick search has turned up a possibility, (Once they get around to adding the SQL functionality into this plugin.) called SourceMod. http://www.sourcemod.net/
Anyways, as for the actual problem, despite the fact that the server is configured correctly the TK Punishment Menu does not load for the victim if you TK them. Incredibly weird since it is a single variable to change in the mani_server.cfg file and it is set correctly there. (Even a quick variable check proves that it is being set correctly.)
